بطور کلی انتخاب المانهای حفاظتی باید با در نظر گرفتن نوع فیدر و اینکه آیا تجهیز منتهی به فیدر از المان حفاظتی اختصاصی برخوردار است یا نه انتخاب می شود. معمولاً کلیدهای خروجی موجود در یک تابلو با توجه به نوع ، سایز و طول کابل خروجی از آن فیدر انتخاب می شوند. در صورتی که فاصله کلید خروجی تا تجهیز مورد نظر کم باشد باید الزامات حفاظتی آن تجهیز اعمال شود، که از مصارف روشنایی تا الکترومتورها ، ترانسفورماتورها و تجهیزات الکترونیک قدرت هر یک از شرایط و الزامات مخصوص برخوردارند. Maximum protected length The formula, when solved for the length, enables the maximum length protected by the protective device to be obtained for a precise instantaneous trip threshold.
